Something that our team found that will help you save time and energy is to know that doing tags for views on your YouTube video isn't a thing anymore. So, if you've been wasting your precious time and energy trying to figure out all the perfect tags for your youtube videos, then you'll definitely want to read this entire article. 

It used to be that we'd strategize adding tags to each and every YouTube video; the tag was a piece of text that helped the YouTube algorithm understand what a video is about. 

YouTube tags are NOT the same as hashtags

YouTube tags were used for relevancy for search, and the tags go into the tag box on the video page in YouTube Studio.

Hashtags can go in the video description box on the video page in YouTube Studio.

Hashtags are different in that they're used for dedicated hashtag search (not to be confused with regular YouTube searches).

Hashtag search has a focus on content freshness instead of channel authority, in contrast to regular YouTube search.

You can rank for hashtag search as a small channel for some competitive keywords.

But what changed this all (and what is currently changing everything) is that back in 2015, youtube started using Google Brain which is the artificial intelligence algorithm (the heart of the search algorithm of google in its entirety).

YouTube probably uses a something like the Google Cloud Video Intelligence algorithm but of course they don't share all the details with the peons of the public (for reasons that they want to keep the power in their hands and CONTROLLING information is a big core foundational truth of why that is, but I digress). 

This algorithm goes through videos frame by frame and generates its own tags based on the content of each frame and how it shows specific videos based on search terms. This has scarily become combined with speech recognition, facial recognition (and a lot more stuff you probably don't want to know about) that lets youtube know EXACTLY what's being said and shown in a video.
